Discovering Castel del Monte - Torre Storica

Castel del Monte was built in the 13th cent. During the reign of The great Federic II. The castle is displayed in order to create light and shade games during the solstice and equinox days. This and many other axpedients used during the building have created a mistery halo around Castel del Monte. Some say the the Sacred Graal is here hidden.

Though it dominates the landscape all around the castle, it has never been used for military purposes as one can notice from the absence of stables, moats and a castle wall. Farthermore, the spiral stair cases are built counterclockwise without giving the possibility to defend against assailants.

In 1996 Castel del Monte has been recognited as an human artistic heritage and you can see it on the one cent of Italian euro.
